2024 Veganville Rap Up

2024 was a year of growth, change, and resilience at Veganville. As we wrapped up our eighth year, we were reminded that sanctuary life is never static, there are joys, losses, and plenty of surprises along the way.

Early in the year, we said goodbye to Ted the llama, who lived a remarkable life of nearly thirty years. His gentle spirit and presence will be remembered by all who knew him. We also bid farewell to Ledaa the hen and several beloved volunteers who moved on to new chapters in their lives. Their dedication left a lasting impact, and we are grateful for the time and love they gave to our residents.

At the same time, 2024 brought new beginnings. We welcomed Rudy the rooster, a lively and confident new addition to our flock, and we added more feral barn cats to our sanctuary family. We also welcomed new animal caregivers, Tilly and her son Nathaniel, who quickly became invaluable members of our team, helping ensure every resident has care, enrichment, and comfort.

Among our rescued animals, Peter and Piper, our clever and affectionate pigs, continued to bring joy and surprises, like Piper helping Peter out of a tricky situation, reminding us how empathetic and resourceful our animals can be. And of course, our social and intelligent turkeys, Annabelle and Coquette, kept us laughing and delighted visitors with their personalities.

Operationally, 2024 was a year of adaptation. With a 40% decrease in our budget, we had to be cautious about new rescues, but we still found ways to prioritize the well-being of every resident. Fencing projects, enrichment, and creative problem-solving helped us continue our mission despite financial challenges.

Through it all, the Veganville community, including volunteers, donors, and supporters, made the difference. Their commitment, encouragement, and generosity allowed us to navigate a year full of ups and downs and continue providing a safe, loving home for our animals.

As we stepped into 2025, we carried gratitude, resilience, and a renewed determination to keep growing, rescuing, and improving life for every resident who calls Veganville home.

Here is to the continued journey.
